| State of the World Forum Brings Special Opportunities: Habitat for Humanity and Oracles Promise for the Future October 5, 1999 Habitat for Humanity brings new housing developments to the bay area. In conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, State of the World Forum offers a special hands-on opportunity to build houses. On Tuesday afternoon during a special off-site roundtable, Forum participants will be joining over 1000 volunteers who are building six homes in six days. Participants will understand how, quickly and effectively, the long-term solution to poverty housing can be accomplished, and in the process, discover how the experience transforms both volunteers and recipients. Now every child can use a computer. State of the World Forum is bringing a special field trip in conjunction with Oracle Corporation. Oracles Promise is a philanthropic of Oracle Corporation chartered with providing network computers to public schools in low-income neighborhoods in the United States and throughout the world through its "Computers for Coexistence" program. Fieldtrip participants are invited to join Marc Benioff, formerly of Oracle and currently Chairman of SalesForce.com to witness and participate in the installation of computers in bay area public schools. Working to improve communication between different groups and improve the political situation in Ireland, Oracle Corporation has also partnered with the State of the World Forum for the Computers for Co-Existence Initiative. In Belfast, 100 computers were installed in four Protestant, Catholic and integrated schools on the condition that the children communicate with one another between the schools. Oracle Corporation provided the installment, training and software. |
