| International Youth Leaders Will Convene at the State of the World Forum September 22, 1999 The Emerging Leaders Program of the State of the World Forum is, bringing together 110 of the most inspirational and accomplished young people from over fifty countries worldwide. The Emerging Leaders Program is an international network of youth who are committed to improving the world through their thoughts, ideas and actions. Among the young people who will be attending the 1999 State of the World Forum are participants between the ages of 12 and 25 representing Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and the Americas. Ishmael Beah, a former child soldier from Sierra Leone, who has turned his experience of war and violence into a powerful tool to transform the world In 1992 Aquella Sherills negotiated a peace settlement in Watts, LA| between the major warring gangs, and currently runs Amer -I-Can, an organization that works to empower young people to work effectively for a healthier community. Chhimi Dorji is the president of Youth for Human Rights, Education, and Development of Bhutan, heading the largest youth directed refugee organization in South Asia. Nadja Halibegovic from Bosnia is a singer, dancer, artist and published author, and has inspired children around the world with her message of hope after surviving the prolonged conflict in her country. Mille Bojer from Denmark is a co-founder of Pioneers of Change, a global network of young professionals and entrepreneurs committed to transforming work into a space for social impact and creative expression. Leon Galindo from Bolivia consults with the World Bank in the areas of information infrastructure and serves on the Board of Directors of Knowledge Navigators Foundation. All Emerging Leaders who will be at the State of the World Forum are dedicated individuals committed to the premise that young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but the leaders of today. The Emerging Leaders will host a plenary at the State of the World Forum gathering at the Fairmont Hotel on October 6th at 12:30 pm. Young people will voice their concerns, thoughts and ideas on the challenges and opportunities which face youth in the approaching millennium. The youth participants will also engage in intimate conversations with esteemed individuals at the Forum including Queen Noor of Jordan, Dr. Jane Goodall, and Jose Ramos Horta, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate from East Timor. The 1999 State of the World Forum will lay the foundation for a similar international gathering in October 2000, where the Forum will convene in conjunction with the United Nations, bringing together civic society and over 180 heads of state.
