• What is the Commission on Globalization? The Commission on Globalization is an international, cross-sectoral, and interdisciplinary multi-stakeholder network dedicated to undertaking an inquiry into the nature and character of globalization. The Commission brings together sectors of society that have extremely divergent views including civil society, government, and business to engage in “integrated thought and integrated action” regarding globalization and global governance. The Commission provides an environment and methodology to facilitate deep deliberation and the development of specific policy recommendations. The Commission is comprised of Co-Chairs and Commissioners representing gender parity and geographic and cultural balance. They are individuals of influence and position within their communities. Influence may develop from an official position; from moral authority derived by representing a particular point of view; from outstanding intellectual achievement; or from a powerful and significant influence through action regarding the course of world events. • How does the Commission seek to bring about reform? The Commission’s goal is to strengthen the global system through reform by developing a broad consensus and specific policy recommendations at a global level that include concrete plans for implementation and that promote greater social equity, environmental protection, enhanced security, and sustainable economic growth. The Commission seeks to fulfill its mission by developing the following: a Global Leadership Network, Cross-Sectoral Consultative Mechanisms, Policy Action Groups and Special Initiatives, and methods of Public Engagement. • How is the Commission financed? The Commission relies on the generous contributions of individuals from around the world, grants from foundation, and corporate sponsorships, as well as pro bono services and in-kind donations from businesses and individuals. The Commission is a Strategic Initiative of the State of the World Forum, which serves as its Secretariat. Overall policy is set by the State of the World Forum Board of Directors in consultation with Co-Chairs and Commissioners. • How can I remain informed on the progress and work of the Commission? Updates on the development of the Commission will be posted on this website on a quarterly basis. The findings, recommendations and publications of the Commission will also be posted as they are made available. • How can I participate in the Commission and its activities? The Commission has created a virtual community of information. Click here to learn more about the Commission Community. In addition, Co-Chairs and Commissioners will gather in varying capacities around the world for annual meetings, regional Community Building meetings, as well as in Policy Action Group and Special Initiative meetings. Supporters of the Commission are invited to join in these gatherings. The general public will be invited to provide input on specific programmatic issues as they emerge.
