"Human Rights and Development:
Towards Mutual Reinforcement"

A one-day conference co-sponsored by the Ethical Globalization Initiative
and the NYU Center for Human Rights and Global Justice, New York University School of Law

March 1, 2004 - NYU School of Law

Many human rights advocates recognize the potential of globalization to be a vehicle for human development and democracy. Yet little has been done to date within the framework of international human rights norms to protect and promote the interests of poor producers, traders and consumers who are disabled from participating in the global economy. While the importance of human rights and democracy to sustainable development is today widely recognized, far too little resources and expertise needed for human rights education, appropriate national legislation, effective administration of justice and popular participation in local and national decision-making, has been expended. This conference is a continuing attempt to address these issues.
